【本期主题】TheEffect of Mandatory CSR Disclosure on Information Asymmetry: Evidence from aQuasi-natural Experiment in China

Using a quasi-natural experiment that mandatesa subset of listed firms to issue corporate social responsibility (CSR)reports, this paper examines the effect of mandatory CSR disclosure on marketinformation asymmetry in China, where we estimate information asymmetry usinghigh-frequency trade and quote data. We find that contrary to the criticismthat mandatory CSR disclosure lacks credibility and relevance in emergingmarkets, mandatory CSR reporting firms experience a decrease in informationasymmetry subsequent to the mandate. In additional analysis we further findthat this relation is more pronounced for firms with greater political/socialrisk and firms with less analyst coverage.

汪永祥，现任南加州大学马歇尔商学院金融学助理教授。他在中国人民大学获得管理学学士学位以及金融和经济学硕士学位，后在哥伦比亚大学商学院获得金融学博士学位。他的研究领域包括：实证公司财务、政治经济学、公司社会责任、组织经济学以及中国经济。汪永祥的论文已在很多国际一流刊物上发表，包括theJournal of Financial Economics 和American EconomicReview Papers and Proceedings等.他同时也多次受邀在重要国际学术会议如AFA和NBER China Conference 等讲演文章。
