Type I (α): reject the null hypothesis when the null hypothesis is true.
Type I error can be viewed as the error of excessive credulity.
Type II (β): fail to reject the null hypothesis when the null hypothesis is false.
Type II error can be viewed as the error of excessive skepticism.
Plainly speaking, a Type I error can usually be interpreted as a false alarm or insufficient specificity.
A Type II error could be similarly interpreted as an oversight, a lapse in attention or inadequate sensitivity.
