Bid of $1.75 on eBay gets abandoned Saginaw home

SAGINAW, Mich. - With a winning bid of just $1.75, a Chicago woman has won an auction for an abandoned home in Saginaw. Joanne Smith, 30, recently was the top bidder for the home during an auction on eBay, The Saginaw News reported. Her bid was one of eight for the home.

This house at 1606 Perkins Street in Saginaw sold for $1.75 on ebay. Posted to the door is a notice of show cause hearing and judicial foreclosure hearing set for January 28, 2009. The notice also states there are back taxes owed on the property.

The Saginaw home that hit the housing market at a cut-rate price sold for less than the price of a McDonald's value meal.

I am going to try and sell it," she told the newspaper. "I don't have any plans to move to Saginaw."

Smith said she hasn't seen the property or visited Saginaw, which has been hard-hit by economic troubles in recent years.

There's a notice on the door of the home saying a foreclosure hearing is pending, the newspaper said. She must pay about $850 in back taxes and yard cleanup costs.

The Saginaw News said it could not reach the seller, Southern Investments LLC, for comment.

is this woman for real, it could be haunted or something, that is the reason she isn't going to see a property, i guess she is going to do everything long distance, pay the taxes is the easy part, but getting it cleaned up is a different story, i really hope she can sell it as that is the way the cookie crumbles on ebay the investment company probably does not know any more about it than what they have told her, as i am sure that they got it about the same way she did, could be interesting, and who knows she unfortately could end up being charged demo costs for a house that cost her less than 2 dollars, and i think that runs about 4 to 5 thousand, i think if it was me i would try to get a look at what i paid for by at least hiring someone to video tape it and it's surroundings, wish her the best

It last sold for $26, I think she got what she payed for. In fact, she may lose money on the deal.

I think she overpaid.

BTW -- Molly, that is one very impressive run-on sentence!

Wow, with the bank crisis I hope she can get financing. I'd hate to see her lose this realestate specimen. I'm thinking with at least 20 percent down she should be able to get an affordable mortgage and maybe when things turn around she can re-sell it for the market value. I estimate that to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.86. She could also just take the equity out of it and buy a McDonald's sweet tea.

I know that she wishes she would have bought a McDonalds meal instead. She might as well pay the demo costs to tear that down,& sell the land, because i think she would have better luck finding a cure for Aids than finding a buyer for that mess...Unless she's ok with losing $1.74.
