Risk and uncertainty in a water market generate trading patterns different from those expected under perfect foresight. Using data on leasing and permanent rights transactions collected from farmer surveys in Chile's Llmarl river basin, hypotheses regarding water market participation and the effect of risk on those decisions are tested.
