corporation is legally one of three firm definition methods. The other two are proprietory and partnership.

firm and company are equally used in general sense.

as far as I've seen, nowhere group is used.

Firm, based on my knowledge, is more often referred to single functional service legal entity such as consulting firm, auditing firm, or law firm, which is usually partnership. There are few exceptions such as BCG which is definitely a firm but called itself Group.

There should be slightly difference among firm, company, corp, and group and I would like to see more insightful postings after mine.
