Arrests follow plan to introduce anti-terrorism law that threatens press freedom

Four journalists have been arrested in Egypt over the past week, adding to 18 journalists already imprisoned, according to a survey conducted by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) on 1 June.

CPJ reports that Wagdy Khaled, a photographer for the weekly newspaper Al-Masriya, was arrested on Friday while taking photographs outside a Cairo mosque. He is being held on suspicion of belonging to the banned Muslim Brotherhood.

We develop a strategic theory of counterfeiting as a multi-market large game. Bad guys choose whether to counterfeit, and what quality to produce. Opposing them is a continuum of good guys who select a costly verification effort. In equilibrium, counterfeiters produce better quality at higher notes, but verifiers try sufficiently harder that verification still improves. We develop a graphical framework for deducing comparative statics. Passed and counterfeiting rates vanish for low and high notes. Our predictions are consistent with time series and cross-sectional patterns in a unique data set assembled largely from the Secret Service.

Harsanyi (1974) criticized the von Neumann–Morgenstern (vNM) stable set for its presumption that coalitions are myopic about their prospects. He proposed a new dominance relation incorporating farsightedness, but retained another feature of the stable set: that a coalition S can impose any imputation as long as its restriction to S is feasible for it. This implicitly gives an objecting coalition complete power to arrange the payoffs of players elsewhere, which is clearly unsatisfactory. While this assumption is largely innocuous for myopic dominance, it is of crucial significance for its farsighted counterpart. Our modification of the Harsanyi set respects “coalitional sovereignty.” The resulting farsighted stable set is very different from both the Harsanyi and the vNM sets. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a farsighted stable set containing just a single-payoff allocation. This condition roughly establishes an equivalence between core allocations and the union of allocations over all single-payoff farsighted stable sets. We then conduct a comprehensive analysis of the existence and structure of farsighted stable sets in simple games. This last exercise throws light on both single-payoff and multi-payoff stable sets, and suggests that they do not coexist.

Levy (2013) presented examples of discounted stochastic games that do not have stationary equilibria. The second named author has pointed out that one of these examples is incorrect. In addition to describing the details of this error, this note presents a new example by the first named author that succeeds in demonstrating that discounted stochastic games with absolutely continuous transitions can fail to have stationary equilibria.

There are many R time series tutorials floating around on the web this post is not designed to be one of them. Instead I want to introduce a list of the most useful tricks I came across when dealing with financial time series in R. Some of the functions presented here are incredibly powerful but unfortunately buried in the documentation hence my desire to create a dedicated post. I only address daily or lower frequency times series. Dealing with higher frequency data requires specific tools: data.table or highfrequency packages are some of them.

I have to admit that I find the plotmath expressions in R a little fiddly to annotate plots with mathematical notation.

Apparently I am not the only one, but Stefano Meschiari did actually something about it. A few days ago his package latex2exp appeared on CRAN.

The package provides the wonderful function latex2exp that translates LaTeX code into plotmath expressions. Brillant! All I have to remember is to escape the "" character, that is write "\" instead of "".

Below is the first example from the plotmath help file and again using latex2exp. I think this is much easier to read and write.

　为何要说这么一句做为咱们的开头呢，来来来，我给你数数互联网你错过的东西：ebay错过的人，在后来的淘宝平台中大展身手，淘宝错过的人，在后来的拍拍和有啊、京东中准备大展身手，博客平台错过的人，在后来的个人博客中大展身手，个人博客错过的人，在后来的微博中大展身手，微博错过的人，准备在自媒体中大展身手，自媒体错过的人，准备在微信朋友圈中大展身手，同时也准备在微信公众平台（订阅号、服务号）中大展身手。

　伴随着这些平台，有些衰退，有些关闭，有些依然做的风生水起，为什么说今天本文要说小商家为何要逃离微信公众平台呢？因为这平台根本不适合你或者说你根本不适合做，为什么不适合，可以参考诺伊网去年写的一篇：微信真的适合每个行业企业营销吗？ 这里面有答案。

　一、做这些平台都有哪些人

　1、网络推手：这类人往往都是第一个进入到各个平台上进驻的人，其中就包含以前的个人独立站长，自媒体，博客博主等等，他们信息来源渠道快，有过其他平台操作的丰富经验，入手快，积累第一批用户名资源，就跟早起的域名抢注一样的道理，这类人主要是抢注，积累粉丝，倒卖账号为营生，有能力的，则自营账号，接商家的广告赚钱。

　2、媒体人和影视红星：这类人本身无论从个人博客、还是微博、还是微信，无论换成什么平台，他们的粉丝永远忠诚的跟着他们走，他们只需要提升自己的形象、增加自己的影响力即可，无需靠这些什么广告啦等等赚钱。

　3、知名媒体机构：这类就不多说了，无非就是增加自己的影响力。

　4、段子手和写手：这类跟网络推手接近，靠内容积累粉丝，自营账号平台，接商家广告等赚钱。

　4、商家：大商家因已有一定的资本实力和部门管控这些，所以，只要是一个好的平台，一般大商家都有优先选择入驻权，而且很容易，很轻易的就能获得一定的粉丝资源，这类大商家只为自己的品牌做影响和积累，有足够的时间、足够的资源、足够的耐心、足够的人力来做这些事情。

　小商家和个人商户纯粹就是随波逐流，听着网络营销的课，看着网上的段子和软文，裹挟着忽悠和各种高大上，也想进来看着能否捞一笔，可是往往事与愿违，在捞之前，已经被别人先捞一笔，他们逃离的速度是最快的，而且是最直接的。

　二、小商家要逃离微信公众平台的理由

　他们没有足够的耐心、不懂技术、没有资源、没有时间，往往两三个月的时间看不到实际的利益产生，就直接放弃了，

　1、技术：多数的微型企业老板都是其他行业的精英，但是对于推广营销、互联网操作技术等方面一窍不通，多数情况需要外部请人，或者直接外包出去（外包让人家做也好，问题是自己完全不懂还不听别人的介绍），到最后，自己啥也不知道，连个后台管理登陆地址都不知道，甚至账号密码都不清楚。

　2、资源：动不动张口就是品牌，闭口也是品牌，他们根本上就漠视或者直接无视品牌是需要大量的金钱、大量的时间、大量的平台砸出来的，最出名的：好空调格力造，今年过节不收礼，收礼只收…… 这两句广告你自己看看说了多少时间，在多少平台上投放，又砸入了多少钱，才塑造了今天的品牌形象？

　3、耐心：小商家就是完全一个短线玩家，一般严重的耐心不足，我见过很多小公司老板聘请网络营销人员，就一心想着怎么能够立马见效，他却不知道任何生意，任何事情都需要足够的时间进行积累经验、积累财富，而不是一步到位的，所以他们见不到收益的话，做多坚持不到3个月就会歇菜，然后就是一路的停摆，再然后就退出了。（看看你身边做面膜、发布面膜化妆品的朋友圈的朋友有几个能够坚持一年的？）

　4、随波逐流：经不起忽悠，也分辨不出哪些是忽悠，哪些是事实，没有独立思考能力，看看马云的名言、早期的面膜代理商、段子手忽悠了多少人，一批又一批，以致于平台只要一出现，说的人多了，就跟风跟上去了，这种上去不是不花代价的，是直接真金白银扑上去的。

　三、小商家的盲目和无知

　因为不懂上面技术、没有资源、没有耐心、随波逐流，所以他们盲目，无知，自己的行业明明不合适微信公众平台，也挤破头的往里面钻。自己的产品不合适，也天天往朋友圈里发。发就发吧，天天发硬生生的广告，天天就发自己的产品，一点营养价值没有，一点可看性都没有，试问：人家关注你的公主号，加你微信好友就是为了看你产品广告的，看你产品介绍的、看你天天刷屏转载广告的？反正他们认为就是一句话：别人做啥，我做啥；别人赚钱都是听说来的，最后别人真赚到钱了，他自己早已经没做了，而且还会妄下断言：微信根本就不行，推广根本就是骗子等等。

　四、微信究竟适合哪些商家

　1、大型商家：例如：天虹、苏宁、麦当劳、肯德基、美宜佳推送优惠信息等等，还是比较适合的。

　2、机构：   例如：银行、小区停车位、股票、证券、电影院等等，可以让人们实时了解自己的相关信息

　3、新闻媒体：例如：人民日报、地方报纸等等，每天推送新闻。

　4、零售商家：附近的服装、餐厅、外卖等等非常适合，人人都可能需要的成品，食物。

　5、服务场所：酒店、KTV等等服务场所非常适合，公司或者朋友聚会、聚餐等获取优惠信息。

　……

　通过上面大致列出的5项，我们可以看出，适合微信操作的行业覆盖的都是：快消、饮食、资讯、个人成品消费、服务行业、媒体等等，原材料生产、加工、半成品产品基本很难在微信朋友圈中推广；多数个体自然人根本不需要，用不上。

　我记得：我身边曾经有好些个老板：做手机零件加工的、原材料经销的、零件加工的都每天往朋友圈里、公众号里推送这些，试问：你的朋友圈的朋友是不是多数把你屏蔽了，这些产品未必完全适合直推啊，平台都选择的不太对，不屏蔽你屏蔽谁啊，你的朋友圈难道个个加的都是手机零件厂商的采购？原材料的采购？公众号里都是采购粉丝？再说了，

　采购都是有计划安排的，也不是临时起意就随便买点回来直接用？

　所以：很多商家在微信公众号（或者说订阅号、服务号）根本没有任何利益营收，多数都是扯嗓子赚吆喝，没一点点实际利益展现，更没有一点点赢利点的凸显，只有一些平时就是做自媒体或者互联网大牛，可能相对的赚取了一点点广告费而已，而投放广告的商家（直接投放给公众号广告）依然是空空如也，基本上什么也没有赚到，无法带来实际的收益，还有些根本就是盲目的乱发，相信更多的商家在激动一年半载之后，便失去信心逃离微信公众号。

　一句话：最后小商家都是白忙活。

　“大部分博客已死。”“博客上有很多傻瓜，傻瓜不应该写东西。”“现在需要有一个更好的系统来区分傻瓜和聪明人。”

之前微软 CEO Satya Nadella 重新制定该公司的企业宗旨中，已经明言会痛下决心甩开泥沼，但想不到他们的动作会那么快。微软今天正式宣布会在未来几个月逐步裁减 7,800 名员工，大部份人跟前次裁员的 18,000 人同样来自前手机业务部门，现时隶属在六月新组成的 Windows and Devices Group 的员工。看来在微软内的诺基亚旧部随着前 CEO 的离去，也所剩无几了。

拿城市当手机代号的是有见过，但真正放到正式名称里的，印象中 Nubia 的这款「My 布拉格」还真是头一部。以外观来说，它给人一种 iPhone 6（正脸和侧面）加 Vivo 手机（背面）结合体的感觉，不过 5.5mm、140g 的金属机身很轻薄，产品图上的屏幕边框看起来也很细。规格方面，My 布拉格采用了八核 64 位 Snapdragon 处理器（615？），同时有 5.2 吋 1080p Super AMOLED 屏幕，2,200mAh 的电池支持快速充电，号称充 10 分钟就能通话 5 ...

虽然不少人在考虑购买新电脑时会自行购买部份回家组装，可是对于一些没有相关知识或时间去研究的朋友，有着不错性能的笔记型电脑和 AiO 都是个好选择。惠普今天就在香港带来了三款系列的新品，包括 Pavilion x360、14 /15 笔记型电脑和 Pavilion 23 一体型电脑，定于相对吸引的价钱来抢夺这群需求不高的使用者。..

自 Raspberry Pi 推出以来，就陆续有不少同类的产品出来让更多人能以低成本学习编程。万万想不到，原来英国广播公司（BBC）也有推出相似的产品，更有了第二代 Micro:bit。它同样是一块目标帮助年轻人学习基础编程知识的微型电脑，尺寸跟信用卡相若（4cm x 5cm）、上面嵌有 25 颗红色 LED ，用以显示讯息和游戏、两个可编程按钮、内嵌的加速计和磁力计。另外更有低功耗蓝牙、microUSB 插口和 5 个 I/O 环供鳄鱼夹和 4mm banana plug（香蕉插头）。

不久前才刚听闻 BlackBerry 可能会做 Android 手机的传闻，没想到今天他们就跟 Google 达成了一项合作。不过，这次双方联手的主要目的，是为了加强 Android 平台的企业功能。在商务市场中鼎鼎大名的 BES12 服务，未来将会被整合到 Lollipop 和 Google Play for Work 当中。 毫无疑问，这是一笔双赢的交易。

除了在全球各地不停引发的抗议、禁令以外，Uber 旗下的那些司机，老实讲，惹出的麻烦也着实不少。之前官方在某些地区的应用中加入紧急按键，就是为了防止诸如印度、法国司机性侵女性乘客，旧金山用户因路线纠纷被锤击头部之类的恶性事件再度发生。但问题是，光靠这样的「后手」，显然还不足以提供令人放心的安全保障。像是最近本计划用 Uber 赴约的英国大学讲师 Anna Kealey，在改变主意取消行程后，就收到了来自司机的死亡威胁。 在接受 BuzzFeed 采访时，Kealey 详细讲述了自己的遭遇。

The linear regression model is widely used in empirical work in Economics. Researchers often include many covariates in their linear model specification in an attempt to control for confounders. We give inference methods that allow for many covariates and heteroskedasticity. Our results are obtained using high-dimensional approximations, where the number of covariates are allowed to grow as fast as the sample size. We find that all of the usual versions of Eicker-White heteroskedasticity consistent standard error estimators for linear models are inconsistent under this asymptotics. We then propose a new heteroskedasticity consistent standard error formula that is fully automatic and robust to both (conditional) heteroskedasticity of unknown form and the inclusion of possibly many covariates. We apply our findings to three settings: (i) parametric linear models with many covariates, (ii) semiparametric semi-linear models with many technical regressors, and (iii) linear panel models with many fixed effects.
