Since you are studying abroad, I will response your problein English. I know sometimes it is very hard to get settle with an idea from scrach and to find suitable data is even harder.
So here I will give you a topic which is very interesting and eash to do.
you can test "Do union workers earn a wage premium?"
I believe up to now there is a large literature on this topic; if you are not familiar with this topic, a brief survey of the literature can be found in Booth(1995)[Booth, A. (1995), The Economics of the Trade Union, Cambridge University Press.].{I believe it shouldn't be hard for you to find other related journal article by following the references given by the book}
The data you can use is the 10th and 11th waves of the British Household Panel Survey. I have all already clean up some part of the data. I will give it to you in Stata format.
The documentation for the variables in the data set is available at http://www.iser.essex.ac.uk/ulsc/bhps/doc/
It including definitions of all the variables in the data set.
you should pay particular attention to two variables:
tujbpl:Is there a trade union, or a similar body such as a staff association, recognised by your management for negotiating pay or conditions for the people doingyour sort of job in your workplace?
tuin1: Are you are member of this trade union or association?
The sort of issues you can address in your project can be:
why might union membership or union coverage affect wages?
why does it matter?
Do members of trade unions have higher wages?
Do workers whose wages are bargained over by unions have higher wages?
the list goes on. So pick some of these issues to study in your project and do them carefully. I am sure you can get a greate mark. IF you are good at econometrics you can even do a panel with it. The data will be given below.
And I hope it will be useful for you. drop me a e-mail if you have problem moonking@hotmail.com
