外部性：文献分享，学习交流

学习环境经济学，或者从事环境经济相关研究，有一个核心概念必须要搞清楚，那就是外部性（externality）。

关于"外部性"的概念

目前，环境经济学界通常使用Baumol和Oates（1988）在其经典著作《环境政策理论》中对外部性的定义：
"An externality is present whenever some individual's (say A's) utility or production relationships include real (that is, nonmonetary) variables, whose values are chosen by others (persons, corporations, governments) without particular attention to the effects on A's welfare."

该书第一版于1975年，由Prentice-Hall Inc.出版。国内有翻译版，由经济科学出版社出版。

William J. Baumol简介
Baumol教授是纽约大学（NYU）和普林斯顿大学经济学教授。学过宏观经济学的肯定很熟悉货币需求的Baumol-Tobin模型，那个Baumol就是他。相对于他的主要研究领域，环境经济学只能算是他的副业。
