有的时候我们会遇到一些急事，不得不打电话临时告知别人，这个时候我们就可以先跟对方说：

I'm so sorry to call you on such short notice.对不起临时给你打电话。

notice 这个单词是“通知”的意思，short 表示“短”，但 short notice 在这里可不是指“简短的通知”的含义，而是表示“临时”的意思，without knowing very far ahead of time that something is going to happen.

It would be unreasonable to expect somebody  to come at such short notice.
