Market to double. This report takes a differentiated look at vocational education in China, a corner of China’s vast education market that’s backed by government policy as it helps university graduates find jobs. Using demographics and examining China’s economic structure, we show there will be an oversupply of highly-educated students for years to come. And where there are high-quality jobs on offer, they are concentrated in just a few areas. The result is the scramble to find jobs is getting tougher. That means demand for vocational training – which includes preparation for civil service exams and teaching qualifications – is heading higher as graduates look to find an edge to make them stand out. We see the market doubling by 2025 to RMB180bn from 2020.
