With respect to the Sraffian theory of prices, Hahnel states that “we are only interested in relative prices”. It would be more accurate to say that if the rate of profit is to be determined by Sraffa’s theory, then the theory can only determine relative prices and cannot determine absolute prices because the Sraffian system of equations contains n equations in n + 2 unknowns
(n prices, the wage rate, and the rate of profit). If the wage rate is taken as given in order to determine the rate of profit, that still leaves one-too-many unknowns.
