Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index HK:HSI -6.57%   tumbled 7.3%, while the Shanghai Composite Index CN:000001 -0.95%   lost 2.5%.

Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average JP:100000018 -4.43%   fell 4.4% in the morning session, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 index AU:XJO -3.21%   lost 4.7%. South Korea’s Kospi KR:0100 -8.24%   suffered a 7.4% hit.

The tumble in Asia on Tuesday came after the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -5.55%  put in its sixth-biggest drop in history on Monday, following a historic downgrade of U.S. debt late Friday.
