the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies

St. Anne’s College, Oxford University, Oxford, UK
26th March 2012

In conjunction with the 2012 Journal of Management Studies (JMS) conference on The Evolution and Future of Management, the editors of JMS will also be conducting a professional development workshop for doctoral candidates. The workshop will take place between 11am and 6pm on Monday 26th March at St. Anne’s College at Oxford University and is aimed at doctoral students in any management-related discipline.

The doctoral workshop will focus on professional development with a particular emphasis on strategies for successful publishing. The workshop will include presentations by experienced editors and reviewers, as well as focused discussions on key topics related to publishing. Planned sessions are scheduled to include:

- Making Your Manuscript Better – development and feedback on your work from senior scholars and editors
- Top Reasons Why Manuscripts Get Rejected
- How to Structure Your Work for Contribution and Impact
- Reviewing: Paths to Improving Your Own Scholarship

We invite all those interested to submit an expression of interest (maximum two pages). This should include information on:
- your field of research
- your specific topic
- the stage your PhD is at
- the reasons you are interested in attending

You must also include the name and contact details of at least one of your supervisors. Expressions of interest should be forwarded to Jo Brudenell via email at j.m.brudenell at durham.ac.uk and should be received no later than 31st October, 2011. Places are limited to 20 participants and attendees will be selected on the basis of expressions of interest. All participants accepted to the workshop must also submit a current working paper one month prior to the conference. Please also note that acceptance into the doctoral workshop does not include acceptance in the concurrent conference.

Accommodation, if required, will be provided free of charge for the night of the 27th March at St. Anne’s. The Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS) is prepared to contribute towards travel expenses. Please contact Jo Brudenell for more details regarding the financial support available.
