早就听闻几十年前美国经济学研究生院的学生为了通过博士考试必读Alchian那本著名的经济学教科书University Economics，但这本圣经级的教科书早已绝版多年，最晚的版本也是1972年的第三版，距今已经36年。汪丁丁教授在他的博客中“招聘‘行为与演化社会理论’博士生”的博文中把Alchian and Allen的 University Economics or Exchange and Production列为“应读且只应读这本经济学教科书”，足可见此书的重要性。作为一个经济学的痴迷者，非常渴望拥有此书，加上张五常教授对他的恩师佩服有加，我倒是很想见识Alchian的价格理论功底。Alchia可是连Samulson也自觉不如的价格理论大师啊！但很遗憾，此书国内至今没有引进，也没有中译本。前几年听闻薛兆丰在翻译此书，但一直未能出版，听说Alchian一直要修改此书。我曾给薛兆丰先生去过Email,但未得到回复。现在的互联网给爱书之人提供了一个非常难得平台，机会难得，我总是在网络上淘到这种古董级的书籍。我在Google上搜索过很久，一直没有看到过此书的真面目，这次放上来，让同样爱此书的人一饱眼福。另外，这次看了此书的前言，也搞清楚了一个困扰我很久的问题——University Economics 和Exchange and Production两本书的关系。原先有网友说后者是前者的缩略本，但Exchange and Production一书1983年还有最后一版，而University Economics在1972年已经是最后一版，逻辑上感觉有问题。在University Economics1972年的第三版中，作者提到此书乃是在University Economics早期版本和Exchange and Production的基础上修订的版本，而Exchange and Production乃是原先University Economics的一部分。但University Economics1972年以后的绝版着实是件令人遗憾的事，本来在AMAZON上看到2005年底会出版Alchian和其他人合著的Universal Economics,但同样让我失望的是，除了出现过书讯之外，此书一直没有上市。
