GMAT or GRE Score

An official and competitive GMAT or GRE score, no more than five years old by date of application (there is no exception to this requirement, except for those individuals who have a Doctoral degree such as a PhD, MD, Juris Doctorate etc.).

  • There is no waiver of GMAT or GRE for applicants who have earned other Masters degrees.
  • The school’s current admitted average GMAT score range is 580 to 600. Please review the list of GMAT Program Codes.
  • The average admitted GRE score range is 1050 – 1240 based on GRE’s taken before August 1st, 2011 (based on the new scoring system, for exams taken after this date the average admitted GRE score range is 310 to 320. Our GRE School Code is R6897.

Official Transcripts

Local applicants must submit official transcripts from all U.S. based colleges and universities attended including any graduate program in which the applicant was enrolled are required for admission. These transcripts must be certified, signed or stamped official by the university’s Registrar Office. Transcripts must be mailed to the Office of Admission and Enrollment Services at the address below or may be transferred electronically between the institutions and UT Dallas.

International applicants and U.S. citizen and permanent resident applicants with an international degree can submit a copy of their diploma, certificates and transcripts for review and admission, at least one of these academic documents must show conferral of a degree. (For a list of examples of academic documents needed, please click here) Once the applicant has been officially admitted, they will have one academic semester to have an official or attested copy of their diploma, transcripts etc. sent directly from their college or university overseas to the Office of Admission and Enrollment Services. There is no exception to this requirement. Please see the address below.

The applicants GPA from their last 60 credit hours will be used as a part of the admission committee’s review for competitiveness for admission. Currently, the average admitted GPA is a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.


TOEFL, IELTS, PTE Score

For all international applicants, an official English proficiency exam score, no more than two years old from the date of application, from one of three testing services is required. We accept the TOEFL (minimum 80 IBT), IELTS (minimum 6.5), and the Pearson Test of English (PTE, minimum 67). Our institutional TOEFL code is 6897.

There are only two waivers of this requirement for international applicants:

  • International applicants who have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree from a college or university in the United States is waived from submitting the English proficiency score.

  • International applicants that are from a country whose official governmental language is English AND whose education has been entirely in English. Please see the list of countries whose citizens meet the waiver criteria for English proficiency.



Resume

A detailed resume of all work history. This may be submitted with the online application, or you can submit a hard copy by mail, email, or fax at the address below. For admission to the MS degrees or the PMBA, we do not require work experience.


Three Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation from current or past employers, community leaders, current or former professors, etc. are required. Applicants are also welcome to use more than one individual from a workplace or organization.

Letters of recommendation may be submitted through the online letter of recommendation system in the online application, or you can submit a hard copy by mail, email, or fax at the address below. We do not require a specific recommendation form or format, however, you can use the format that is provided by the admission office.


Personal Objectives Statement

A one page, double spaced, typed essay outlining the applicant’s academic interests and goals. This may be submitted with the online application, or you can submit a hard copy by mail, email, or fax at the address below.

All applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee to guarantee the selection of the most qualified applicants based upon a holistic review of the items listed above.

Master’s Degree Program Prerequisites

Prerequisite knowledge in calculus is a requirement for the Professional MBA, Professional MBA Online and most Masters of Science programs. Applicants need to have earned a “B” or better in calculus or its equivalent to satisfy the prerequisite. Applicants who have not satisfied this requirement may be admitted but will need to satisfy the pre-requisite within the first semester of UT Dallas course work, by taking MAS 6V00.501 (Quantitative Foundations of Business.)

  • Applicants to the MS Marketing, MS Healthcare Management, MS International Management Studies and MS Innovation and Entrepreneurship programs do not have the calculus prerequisite requirement.

  • Applicants to the MS Finance program require basic statistics as a program prerequisite. Students who have not meet the basic statistics prerequisite will need to complete OPRE 6301 to complete the basic statistics requirement for the MS Finance Program.

  • Applicants to the MS Accounting program require that students must have completed ACCT 6201 (Introduction to Financial Accounting) and ACCT 6202 (Introduction to Managerial Accounting), or their equivalents, with a grade of “B” or better.


Degree credit is not earned for program prerequisites, though all grades earned in graduate courses impact the cumulative GPA.Deficiencies must be remedied during the first semester of the graduate program. For further information contact the School of Management Advising Office.

Non-Degree Seeking Students

Students that desire admission as a non-degree seeking student must meet all the admission requirements specified above for degree seeking students, including all relevant test scores (GMAT or GRE, TOEFL, IELTS or PTE). Students who decide to switch to degree seeking status will have to apply to the degree program. If they are admitted, at most six credit hours taken as a non-degree seeking student can be transferred to the degree program. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Students in the U.S. on an F1 or J1 Visa may only be admitted to degree seeking status. Please consult with the International Student Services, if you are in doubt concerning your status.
