Yes, just five minutes ago, Miami Heat beat Oklahoma City Thunder and won the 2011-2012 NBA championship. What a marvelous night to Miami fans! Both teams' players played pretty good and professional, but Miami Heat had a better defense and shooting acuracy than Oklahoma City Thunder.
Miami is a relatively larger basketball market Oklahoma City, but both cities are not as large as Boston. Therefore, Miami's victory represents a medium market has been leading the NBA league this year and may attract more fans to watch NBA in the future. The reason is that the number of people from big cities watching NBA would not change no matter before or after these teams which have big markets win NBA championships. However, as teams which have relatively smaller markets win NBA championships, that will inspire more people to watch NBA games than big citites since markets in big cities have been almost full.
So, why not let team from small markets to win NBA champions? The reason is that their markets are too small in contrast to other countries. Lack of enough population will decrease their chances to attract more fans to watch their games. However, medium cities and basketball markets can grow faster than small cities and basketball markets, especially the cities in rich areas and developing areas.
Congratulations again to Miami Heat and their basketball fans!
