It is useful as it would aid you in your own personal financial planning.
However, in my humble opinion, with your background in computing, you might find more applications in finance than in personal finance as the current trend for personal financial planning in Asian countries seems to skew towards generating revenues from sales of banking and insurance products.

You are welcome. Please note that to acquire the CFP(R) mark, you have to acquire the relevant experience from the industry too. If it's for the sake of knowledge, then of course there is no such need.
