Most of the literature needed can be downloaded from the websites like google scholar. Some searching skills can be refered from the very colunm here. The city size distribution has always served as a main topic in urban economics. I wonder if you are interested in testifying some pricinple like Zipf's Law by employing the data concerned with the cities in China. You may take the our national situation into consideration which means the targetted cities may be on distinct stages. In details, some are still dominated by a planned and bureacratically administrated economy. In some city may planned administration and the marketplace coexist. Others may be with a system in which the marketplace predominate. Please pay more attention to how to compare the tested result from different countries with different national situation.
