The Apple iPad Mini, Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7 are the top tablets on the market. Whether you're ready your favorite book or reviewing pie charts on an air plane, chances are it's one of those three tablets. But which is better? Let's take a look at the specs and design as it pertains to the Apple iPad Mini, Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7.

The Kindle Fire HD is by far the slowest of the devices. The iPad Mini and Nexus 7 definitely have the edge when it comes to web browsing, games, loading apps, and watching movies.

Carrying the Apple torch, the iPad Mini has two cameras: a lesser quality front-facing camera and a higher megapixel camera on the back. The Nexus and Kindle only have cameras on the front. Sure, the prospect of taking photos on a tablet seems clunky at best, it's something to keep in mind.

The display and design are probably the most recognizable differences between the three tablets. The iPad Mini has the largest screen at 7.9 inches. The Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD both have 7-inch displays and higher resolution than the iPad Mini at 1280 x 800 pixels per inch.

When it comes to design the iPad Mini definitely takes the cake. Not only is it longer than the Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD, it's also thinner and lighter. The Kindle Fire HD is the chunkiest of the three and the Nexus 7 is the narrowest and easiest to hold with one hand.

For those tablet users that prefer an excellent all around device, and are more comfortable with iOS, then go with the iPad Mini. Some may opt for the Android Jelly Bean experience of the Google Nexus 7. If you are leaning towards the Kindle Fire HD, consider the 8.9-inch display version. Compared with the price, specs and features, it's a great value.
