Economic Regulation and Its Reform What Have We Learned

National Bureau of Economic Research Project on Regulatory Reform
Edited by Nancy L. Rose
MIT and NBER
The research in this volume was part of a National Bureau of Economic Research project
on “Economic Regulation and Its Reform” that culminated in a September 2005 conference
at the NBER in Cambridge, MA. The conference brought together more than two dozen
researchers for two days of presentations and discussion; chapters in this volume evidence
the results of that collaboration. We are especially grateful to the conference discussants,
whose efforts contributed substantially to the proceedings and the quality of the final
papers: Ernst Berndt, Tim Bresnahan, Steven Berry, Charles Calomiris, Tasneem Chipty,
Joseph Farrell, Jonathan Macey, Erin Mansur, David Sappington, and Catherine Wolfram.
The project participants greatly appreciate Martin Feldstein’s interest in and encouragement
of the project, and gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the NBER.
