I love this wonderful idea, I have been abroad for some years since my graduation from college. (I was born in China.) Now I am working at a research institution doing research in US while I practice my Chinese at home. Try not to laugh at me since half of my day was at work and I hardly wrote any Chinese character beside some limited emails with my friends. I learned a lot from bbs.pinggu.org and want to share my experience of studying, living and working abroad. I glimpsed some of the messages from this topic, I definitely think I could talk a little about my opinion of English learning and as a tool to help you in many respects. First, the function of a language is to primarily convey ideas and recording important messages. Chinese students will do very good in the second function but not so successful in the second one in general, for example, most of Chinese students I met with are very good learning from books and writing good home works and articles, however, when it comes to ask questions and participate in group projects, they would stay back and give the chance to other students. Such precious opportunities slip away for practicing English by speaking out. I know it is hard at the very beginning, but it will never get better until you start the first step. Second, to learn a language is not only reading the books and following the grammar so that you could use it, it is much rich than that. In order to learn a language well, try to put yourself in the position of a explorer and want to take an adventure of the exotic and uncharted place, you are going to grab all the things you could obtain to make a living and studying new things you never see before, making friends you never dream before, learning how to embrace the nature and culture like your own. Third, language is a must skill to live abroad, the better language you spoke, the better outcomes it will bring. For instance, you are a interviewer for a company, you have two candidates in front of you, they both have 30 minutes to talk with you, assuming they have almost the same qualifications of experience, education and requests, one of them is very good at communication in English and could discuss during the interview, however the other one is very shy and only try to answer your questions with the minimal voices and hard to understand, who will you choose?

Hopefully, this will give you some ideas of what I encountered during the years, I am ready to answer your questions (to my best knowledge, US is big.) when you are ready!

I like special english . i have written a paper about banking regulation with about 5000 english words and have shared this paper in a seminar summit in beijing this year.

so far I'm studying in abroad to pursue my MBA degree, and previously in China I used to work in some foreign companies which need to communicate with English. and this is really helpful when I was applying the MBA program. I wrote lots files including background introduction, carrer path planning, etc.

I finished my study last year in UK, so I'm gonna share some experiences about applying master in UK.
First, i found that apply master by our own could be much better than apply by agent, cuz most of agent applications are the same. If you prepare application, I believe it could stand out from others.
In addition, authorise agent to help you apply will cost much more than apply by ourselves.
After that, you can ask your tutor to give you some suggestions about the application.
My friends who got better university offer were mostly apply by themselves.

I got both my Economics bachelor and master in the US. I just have one suggestion for people who are trying to get their advanced degree. If you are looking for PHD programs, you should prepare early during your undergraduate study with a strong focus on research. Strong letter of recommendation from someone you know well is important. If you just want to get a one/two year master program here, you should be fine if you maintain a good GPA and GRE score.

At the university where I study now, it is not required to write a thesis to fulfil the requirements of graduation.
I would like to ask is this a weakness of applying the master programme.
Another question is that the speed of the professors at the universities overseas is very fast? Just like the American Drama? Since I only here part of the sentence, if it is the case, it will be a big problem for me to study overseas.

first, you need to summarize what you have done in your previous life, including the education background, internship or working experience  and your interpersonal skill

Glad that you are interested in publishing your work in top journal, there are many factors that you could get your work published, and I will list some of them that I have experienced.
1) Your field of interest, this is probably the most important factor, I studies science and publish in journals that only deals with science, not in other art majors. So most of my advice will be only applicable in science majors. It is very competitive to publish in good journals, fields such as biology, genetics, engineering are among the most difficult to get work published in general, majors such as mathematics, physics, astronomy etc. in other words are better, however, takes longer.
2) The more recent hot topics are easier to catch the eye balls of the editors of top journals, such as big data, data mining, machine learning. Any topic now by mixing the big data with their own fields will be considered a top one.
3) Make sure you have a good team members (the ones you published with), it looks like it is not very important if you have your confidence in your work, however, in most practical scenario, you will notice that to have good teammates and co-authors could help you dramatically in the sense of getting work publish in general, especially in top journals.
4) As a non-English speaker, please do have your manuscript checked out before sending to the journal, I guess you will be not happy to be rejected by journals that indicate you need to fix a lot grammar mistakes before it could be reviewer. One good suggestion is that to find some of your collaborators abroad or published in foreign journals to go through your manuscript thoroughly.

I just listed some basic things that I will check before I even start to write my manuscript, hopefully, it will  benefit you and others. Good luck!
