It's a good opportunity to share the experence how to study abroad successfully.
Personally, I think the language barrier is a common thing we can't deny. No matter what field you study, you should always put learning English in your mind. Second, I think you should have enough money to pay tuition fee. It needs time to prepare this huge amount of money. Last but not least, we should train our body to adapt to the foreign weather. Different countries have different types of weathers. Practice taking a cold (hot) shower when it is winter (summer).
i like special english . i have written a paper about banking regulation with about 5000 english words and have shared this paper in a seminar summit in beijing this year.
Informative post. Though I am pretty much done with my undergrad. However, if any of you is looking to study at any universities in Canada, specifically, the West coast of the country, I could probably provide some advice regarding the application requirement, process, and other housekeeping items.
Since I began to work as an intern in Hong Kong, I found that only English and Cantonese can be used. There is still a long way to go to be a professional person.
But I believe English is just a tool. So if you cannot use English as a native speaker, don't be frustrated. Practice makes perfect. Keep on fighting!!
In terms of graduate school application, I think the biggest secret is about the reference letter. I think your reference letters are far more important than standardized test scores of GRE, GMAT, or Toefl. The reason is that a reference letter means a connection. If you got a letter from a famous researcher, or from a scholar that your future supervisor knows of, then the letter really makes difference. Unfortunately, many Chinese applicants write reference letters by themselves. To top it off, these letters are not really convincing but full of stereotypical sentences.
So what can we do about it? One suggestion is you woud better try hard to ask for help with reference letters from those professors who had overseas study experiences, especially at the PhD level.
