Section A
（1）纯真（质朴、单纯等）是一种灵魂的正直，它又是一种忘我。这种灵魂的纯真不同于真诚，它是更高的美德。我们看到许多人真诚，但难以做到纯真。这些人仅仅希望展示他们美好的一面，不愿意暴露他们的缺憾。他们总是反省自我，字斟句酌，唯唯诺诺，患得患失。

（2）总是顾忌他人，又从不反省自我，专注于眼前，又集中于感官，这种人是处于一种盲目愚昧的状态，这恰恰是走向了纯真的反面。

（3）聚精会神于内心的反省冥思比全神贯注于身外的世俗事务更加有害，因为这貌似一种智慧，而其实根本不是。我们不以此为过，反引以为荣，我们醉心于此，反之这一状态又给我们一种虚假的力量。这是一种癫狂，我们并没有意识到我们病入膏肓，我们反而以为自己身心健康。

（4）纯真是一种中庸（存在于适度之中），既不过于兴奋，也不过于沉静。由此我们的灵魂既不会因为外界的事物所诱惑，而无法进行必要的思考；也不会总是顾及自我，而使维护自身完美的戒备心理趋于无限膨胀。

（5）在前进的道路上一往无前，无暇推断和研究具体步骤，去斟酌和顾及已经采取的行动，具有这种精神的人才可称之为真正的纯真。

Section B
（1）Books introduce us into the best society; they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that have ever lived. We hear what they said and did; we see them as if they were really alive; we sympathize with them, enjoy with them, grieve with them; their experience becomes ours, and we feel as if we were in the scenes which they describe.

（2）Fame, wealth and power are merely worldly possessions within the reach of anybody striving for them. But your experience of life and feelings about life are your own and they could not be shared. A full awareness of this will point out you that the most important thing in your existence is your distinctive individuality or something special of yours. What really counts is not your worldly success but your peculiar insight into the meaning of life and your commitment to it.

（3）China adhered to the scientific view of development by putting people first, and made every effort to build a harmonious society. New progress was achieved in its reform, opening up and modernization drive. Along with continuous economic growth, more democratic practices were seen in the political arena, and the society progressed in a comprehensive way. Further improvements were made in people's living standards, and everything in China were continuously improved and developed in all fields.
