You need confirmation about the upper information.

Second, make a strict schedule for your preparation.
Stick to it,
no compromise,
until you get there.
This is the most important part.

I recommend you review all the courses simultaneously.
The former exam questions so called real exams are the valuable material.
Make sure you know everything about the problems.

I don't think engineering background will consist any problem for you.
Actually it is a big advantage.
Economic instructors love candidates with engineering background.

If things won't change much.
The key courses will still be mach, English (common courses) and local politics(customized course).

Another issue,
make your decision of your target school as soon as possible.
The so called customized courses are their responsibility.
You need contact target school for the detailed information.
Normally, they will tell you the relevant textbook, the scope of exam etc.

If you know nothing about economics by now.
You need spend some time on it.
It won't be hard, but still need a lot time to familiar with the relevant knowledge.
After you know the basic concept,
it is time to horn your skill with questions, exam simulation etc.

In summary,
1. know why you want do it.  (because the whole process will be tedious, without reasonable motivation, a lot of candidates just give up easily. so, you need give yourself a firm reason.)
2. know your target school. ( customized courses requirement)
3. engineering your schedule ( you need ambitious but reasonable plan)

Last advice, try to get a program as good as possible.
a mediocre certificate won't help you much.
It is a waste of time unless your have other social resource.
