Using Stata for Principles of Econometrics, Fourth Edition, by Lee C. Adkins and R. Carter Hill, is a companion to the introductory econometrics textbook Principles of Econometrics, Fourth Edition. Together, the two books provide a very good introduction to econometrics for undergraduate students and first-year graduate students.

The main textbook takes a learn-by-doing approach to econometric analysis, and this companion book illustrates the "doing" part using Stata. Adkins and Hill briefly show how to use Stata's menu system and command line before delving into their many examples.

Using Stata for Principles of Econometrics, Fourth Edition shows how to use Stata to reproduce the examples in the main textbook and how to interpret the output. The current edition has been updated to include features introduced in Stata 11, such as the margins command to compute elasticities. Together with Principles of Econometrics, Fourth Edition, the reader will not only learn econometrics but also gain the confidence needed to perform his or her own work using Stata.

Official site for downloadable materials   This page has links to all the datasets, do-files, and supplementary  materials used in Using Stata for Principles of Econometrics, Third  Edition, by Lee Adkins and Carter Hill.
Stata datasets  There are muliple ways you can get the datasets. No matter which method you  choose, you should start by creating a folder/directory where you would like  to keep your local copies of the files.  Once this is done, you can either  get the files from within Stata or download and decompress the  files manually.
To work from within Stata
  • Start Stata.
  • cd to the location you created above. Mac and       Windows users can navigate to the location by choosing File > Change       Working Directory... from the menubar.
  • At the Stata prompt, type     . net from http://stata.com/data/s4poe
  • Follow the three clickable links to investigate the packages and retrieve       each of their sets of files.
  In addition to the method above of obtaining all files associated with the  book at once, it is possible to use any individual data file from within  Stata by typing
    .  use http://stata.com/data/s4poe/filename  As an example, typing
    .  use http://stata.com/data/s4poe/andy  will load andy.dta into Stata.
  To download a do-file, you can type
    .  copy http://stata.com/data/s4poe/filename filename  As an example, typing
    .  copy http://stata.com/data/s4poe/chap02.do chap02.do  will download chap02.do to your current working  directory.
To work from your browser  To download and uncompress all the Stata data files or do-files from your  browser, right-click the proper file below, download it, move it to the  proper location, and unzip/decompress it.
Ancillary materials  There are some other materials that you may want to download in addition to  the above Stata files. These are available as zip files:
  • The definition files, which give the data sources and summary data about       each of the datasets, are in       s4poe_definitions.zip.
  • Text (tab-delimited) versions of the datasets are in       s4poe_text.zip.
  • Microsoft Excel versions of the datasets are in       s4poe_excel.zip.
