Representatives came from nearly 30 countries to join China’s Commerce Ministry and the China International Fair for Investment & Trade’s (CIFIT) organizing committee for the 18th CIFIT Shanghai Promotional Symposium, on March 27.
There were representatives of consulates general, business association and multinationals from Germany, Japan, the Philippines, Portugal, Belgium, Austria, Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, South Africa, and Kazakhstan for the Shanghai affair.
The 18th CIFIT will be held in the city of Xiamen, Fujian province, Sept 8 - 11 to promote international economic cooperation, industrial transfers, international finance and a “going out” strategy for Chinese companies.
The Commerce Ministry has reported that China’s FDI hit record of $90.1 billion in 2013, making it the second largest economy in the world and the third largest investor. And CIFIT, one of the world’s largest investment fairs, is expected to facilitate the going global move. The organizing committee has decided to concentrate on inviting famous SOEs and private companies to take part in the fair, with the help of the Outward Investment Department, All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, China Enterprise Confederation, China International Contractors Association and China's chamber of commerce, with approximately 1,000 enterprises already having signed up.
It has invited at least 10 countries to host investment activities at the fair to attract Chinese enterprises, and trade officials and company representatives will provide on-the-spot consultation on investment and the business environment of their respective countries.
There will also be various seminars on going global, with the Commerce Ministry hosting several, and publishing related reports on foreign capital prospects, China’s FDI statistics and guide to investment overseas, and trade and development cooperation zones.
This year’s CIFIT has the backing of China’s State Council with sponsorship from the Commerce Ministry, and co-sponsors such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, UN Industrial Development Organization, World Trade Organization, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, International Finance Corporation, and the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies.
The vice-director of Nankai University’s International Economic Research Institute and an expert on international investment, Ge Shunqi, gave a keynote speech at the symposium.
CIFIT is China's only international investment event with the purpose of facilitating bilateral investment and is the largest global investment event with Union of International Fairs backing.
