[size=10.000000pt]This book seeks to describe various aspects of theory building forhypothesis specification in organizational studies. It is based onvarious sources including my study of some of the literature on variousaspects of theory building, my training in research methods, my teachingof theory building in my research methods courses for research degreeprogram students, and my observation of the practice of theory buildingfor hypothesis specification as reflected in the published papers in aca-demic journals. This book is not about theory-building process associatedwith the specification of grand theories. Rather it is about doing theorybuilding for specifying hypotheses, which can be taken up for subsequentempirical examination. Thus, its scope is narrower than the focus ofworks that may address theory building for developing grand theories ortheories in general. However, in the last chapter, the book outlines howthe approach for theory building for hypothesis specification containedin it can be extended to specify simple theories that focus on a narrow-scoped phenomenon.
