This book attempts to study the evolution of the middle class in Russia during the last decade of the twentieth century and the first one of the twenty-first century. This is a critical and even fascinating period because it follows the dissolution of the USSR in 1991 and covers what is known as the transition period, during which many fundamental reforms were implemented. This study focuses on income and is based on the RLMS dataset (Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey).
