【摘要】Empirical research on dynamic capabilities investigates a variety of processes and routines for organisational adaptation, thus impeding a unified understanding of the approach and meaningful practical implications. In order to organise and better understand previous empirical research, we classify dynamic capabilities along their type-whether they enable reactive or proactive adaptive behaviour, and their locus-whether they reside within or across functional areas. The resulting framework distinguishes four kinds of dynamic capabilities, each representing different ways of adaptation. We discuss their purposes, roles, and underpinning processes and routines, which help to better understand previous contributions on dynamic capabilities and provide scholars a basis to position their work. We also offer promising paths for future research that emerge from our classification.
