US President Donald Trump said looming job cuts and plant closures at General Motors, the largest American carmaker, had given fresh impetus to his plans to slap tariffs on car imports, escalating trade tensions with US allies ahead of the G20 summit.
Mr Trump has reacted with frustration and anger at GM, after the company this week said planned cost cuts would include the shuttering of manufacturing facilities in politically pivotal rust belt states such as Ohio and Michigan.
