约翰·博格尔

约翰·博格尔（John Bogle，1929年5月8日至2019年1月16日），男，出生于美国新泽西州，毕业于普林斯顿大学，指数基金教父。为美国共同基金公司领航投资（英语：The Vanguard Group）创办者，同为世界上第一档指数型基金 ──Vanguard 500 Index Fund的发行人
2019年1月16日，约翰·博格尔去世，享年89岁。

人物生平

1929年5月8日，约翰‧博格尔诞生于美国新泽西，其家族为来自苏格兰越过大西洋的移民。
年轻时就读于费城的普林斯顿大学经济系。
1949年博格尔于财星杂志（Fortune）阅读到一篇关于共同基金产业的文章──“Big Money in Boston”，激起了他对基金产业的兴趣，之后便以此作为大学论文的题材内容。论文完成后博格尔将文本寄送给该产业中的几位重要人物，随后获得当时经营威灵顿管理公司（Wellington Management Company）的掌管人瓦特·摩根（Walter Morgan）的赏识，并让博格尔于大学毕业后立即到威灵顿管理公司就职。
1966年已为威灵顿管理公司接班者的博格尔与波士顿一家公司合并以处理威灵顿管理公司问题，但随后因1973至1974期间的股市下跌造成严重亏损，使得博格尔在董事会上被投票表决撤职。
1974年9月26日；博格尔另起炉灶以英国海将纳尔逊在尼罗河战役使用的船只HMS Vanguard为名，成立了The Vanguard Group（领航集团）。
1975年，博格尔以复制、追踪“标准普尔500指数””为架构，创造出世上第一个指数型基金“第一指数投资信托”（First Index Investment Trust），之后更名为现今的Vanguard 500。
2000年，博格尔卸任Vanguard集团资深总裁，仍有资助多项机构，如：费城的国家宪法中心（National Constitution Center），并于母校普林斯顿大学成立“博格尔兄弟奖学金”（Bogle Brothers Scholarships）。

人物成就

1974年，博格尔断定并不存在能战胜市场指数的基金，开始推行以指数为基准进行投资的原则，同年成立了先锋指数基金。发展初期尽管只有1100多万美元，但经过数十年的发展，先锋基金管理资产规模已高达8840亿美元，一半资产来自机构投资者，先锋集团也成长为美国第二大基金管理公司。1977年博格尔采取让旗下基金为免手续费（No-load）的销售制度，2012年领航集团管理总资产已达2万亿美元。
