Rural regions in Europe are evolving under powerful boundary conditionssuch as globalisation, socio-cultural transformations and climatechange, which in turn increases natural hazards. The regional land useand the evolvement of landscapes is increasingly shaped trends anddrivers like infrastructural, energy or housing needs, globalisedagricultural markets, and consumption habits. To face these challengesand to balance competitiveness with social cohesion, the "InnoLandresearch and development network" induces and accompanies promisingland use innovations at the landscape scale in 10 European ruralregions. Based on a common conceptual approach among the InnoLandpartners, the development and implementation of new competitivestrategies is conducted as a science-practice dialogue with strongcommitment to the regional policy design for rural development. Withthis book, the network partners provide an overview and a comparativeanalysis of selected experimental regional approaches and give examplesfor the successful tackling of future opportunities and threats.
