Separating equilibrium, is a definition compared to pooling equilibium. This is a prevailing definiton in incomplete information dynamic games, especially in signaling games.
Pooling equilibrium means that, given a player's strategy, other player cannot tell his type with probability one. Instead, one can claim that this player is type a with probability p, and type b with prob 1-p, sometimes plus a restriction that p must be in some interval. On the other hand, if in equilibrium, other player can tell his type after observing his strategy, this is called a separating equilibrium.
