Okay, I know what you all must be thinking. We know what pirates are. They are people who rob boats. 
Well, yes, that is a pirate. But I mean people who pirate movies and music!
P-I-R-A-T-E. Pirate.[ˈpaɪrət]
Which is a verb, not a noun like an actual pirate that is a person who robs boats.
To pirate means to illegally copy and sell music or movies without permission. 
Even if someone is downloading movies off the internet, then that is still considered pirating.
If they are downloading music on the internet, then that is considered pirating music.
I actually have an example of how people used to pirate movies.
In the early 2000s people actually used to walk into the movie theater with handheld video cameras, and then sell the movie for about two dollars. 
These pirated movies usually were of low quality but very cheap! 
But people can face up to a year in jail if they are caught doing this, and also pay up to 100,000 dollars in fines.irate means to illegally copy and sell music or movies without permission.
