一、“造谣”：

①start a rumour

start表示“创造”，创造一个谣言也就是“造谣”啦。

例：

However, traders tended to start a rumour.

但是，商人们倾向于传播这个谣言。

②cook up a story

生生地编造出一个故事，就是“造谣”的意思。

例：

If the police catch us, shall we be able to cook up a story?

如果警察抓住我们，我们能编出一套瞎话来吗？

二、在有些人“造谣”之后，一定会有越来越多的人“传播谣言”：

spread a rumour

spread表示“传播”，rumour是“谣言”的意思。

例：

Thereis a rumour, possibly spread by the revolutionary himself, that a major league scout onceexpressed interest in signing him as a player.

有一个谣言，很可能是革命者自己散布的，一个大联盟球探曾经表示有兴趣签下他作为球员。

三、在节目组采访到这位和尚之后，他的身份才得以“辟谣”：

stop the rumour

停止谣言的传播，也就是“辟谣”的意思啦。

例：

I tried to stop the rumours.

我要去辟谣。

四、从这位和尚的故事中，我们可以看到，他是一位“善良之人”：

①nature

nature作为名词，有“本性；本质”的意思。

例：

She trusted people. That was her nature.

她信任人，那是她善良。

②a heart of gold

表示“有一颗金子般的心”，引申为“赤诚之心”。

例：

She started to get a reputation as an unselfish girl with a heart of gold.

她开始得到有着金子般心灵的无私女孩的名声。

③kind-hearted

意思是“热心肠的”人。

例：

He was a warm, generous and kind-hearted man.

他是个热情、大方又热心肠的人。

④humane

词根是human，加上e则表示“人道主义的”。

例：

In the mid-nineteenth century, Dorothea Dix began to campaign for humane treatment of the mentally ill.

在19世纪中叶，多罗西娅·迪克斯发起了为精神病患者争取人道待遇的运动。

⑤merciful

指的是“仁慈的；善良的”。

例：

He was honored because of this merciful act.

他因为这一仁慈的举动而受到尊重。

⑥affable

表示“友善的；温暖的”。

例：

He was affable at one moment, choleric the next.

他时而友善和蔼，时而暴躁易怒。

⑦virtuous

这里要注意的是，它偏向于“道德上的高尚”。

例：

Louiswasshown as an intelligent, courageous and virtuous family man.

路易斯看上去是一个聪明、勇敢而且品德高尚的顾家男人。

⑧lenient

虽有“善良的”意思，但更多的是指“宽容的”。

例：

The judge was far too lenient with him.

法官对他太宽容了。

⑨charitable

表示“慈善的；慈悲的”。

例：

He had set up two charitable trusts.

他已经成立了两家慈善信托机构。

⑩easygoing

意思是“随和的”，更多指性格上的随和。

例：

Most meeting times can be changed, even if an exact time is given, Ghanaians are very relaxedand easygoing.

大多数会议的时间是可以更改的，即使给出了确切的时间，加纳人也非常放松和随和。
