Dear all
I am exploring alternatives to analyse a data set and would appreciate some feedback and/or suggestions.

In an experience sampling exploratory study we asked participants to report on a set of continuous variables (IVs= x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x7, DV=y) 5 times a day for 3 weeks, i.e. a total of 105 (5*7*3) observations per participant over the course of three weeks.

My preferred strategy of analysis for this type of data would be a time series multiple regression. Now because experience sampling data are nested (observations within persons), am not sure whether multilevel analysis would be a more appropriate way to analyse the data.

  • Q1: Which of the two methods would be more appropriate for this design?
  • Q2: Is it possible to conduct a multilevel regression analysis with this design?
  • Q3: Is there an alternative technique, to the two mentioned above, that would be more appropriate for this type of data?

Thanks a lot in advance for any suggestions.
