Job Title: Economist

Reporting to: Deputy Director, Access China
Summary purpose of job
The Economist Intelligence Unit is looking for an Economist to work in our team analyzing and forecasting on the Chinese economy, particularly at the provincial and city level.
Key accountabilities
The Economist will play a key role in maintaining our forecasts for China’s provinces and cities and preparing analytical reports. The candidate will be responsible for building ongoing relationships with data suppliers to ensure the quality of the underlying data. The role will also work with other economists globally to build a set of coherent and consistent forecasts across China and contribute directly to Access China.
Skills and capabilities

Education and training
|
· Degree in Economics (with a considerable weight in statistics and applied econometrics desirable)
|
Previous work experience
|
· Experience analysing Chinese economic statistics is highly desirable
|
Language
|
· Chinese and English (both written and oral)
|
Key skills
|
· Detailed knowledge of Chinese official data and statistical resources · Knowledge of applied econometric modeling desirable · Detailed knowledge of China and its regions · Knowledge of main econometric packages and model solution software an advantage

IT skills
|
· Strong Excel spreadsheet skills
|
Personal attributes and Interpersonal skills
|
· Ability to take a project from conception through to implementation · Good project management skills and ability to work to deadlines · Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to express complex ideas using non-technical language · A strong sense of client needs and the ability to deliver on these
