In this class, we have several objectives. The first is to learn the key stylized facts and theories related to development economics. The second objective is to learn how to apply econometric techniques to the study of economic questions. For this purpose, we study estimation principles and study their application in the context of specific papers. The third objective is to understand what it means to do research in development economics. For this, you will replicate the analyses of several well-known recent papers. The last objective is to provide a sense of what it is like to work in development policy. To facilitate this, you will debate important and controversial policy questions for development, using empirical evidence
from recent papers for your argument.
