Research Impact Award

The Greif Research Impact Award is a $5,000 annual award given to the researcher(s) who published the most impactful entrepreneurship article six years ago in the top management and entrepreneurship journals. Impact is measured as the number of Social Sciences Citation Index citations in the five years following publication.

Award Methodology

The winner of the 2015 Greif Research Impact Award was determined using the following process:

  • Identification of entrepreneurship articles published in 2009 in the following top management and entrepreneurship journals:
    • Academy of Management Journal
    • Academy of Management Review
    • Administrative Science Quarterly
    • Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice
    • Journal of Business Venturing
    • Management Science
    • Organization Science
    • Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal
    • Strategic Management Journal

Articles were identified as entrepreneurship-focused based on a comprehensive review of abstracts by two entrepreneurship scholars. All articles published in Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal were included. Books, book reviews, and commentaries (e.g., special issue introductions, editorials) were excluded.

  • Year-by-year citation analysis 2009-2013 for the articles using the Social Sciences Citation Index. Self-citations were excluded.
  • Ranking of articles based on total number of citations (excluding self-citations) over the period 2009-2013.
