In Table 2, we report the average marginal effects from our negative binomial regressions with joint TOI as exposure. Model 1 includes control and indicator variables only. Model 2 adds the effect of facing a former team and Model 3 includes the effect of facing a former teammate.
Hypothesis 1 posits that individuals show more competitive behavior toward former organizations than toward non-former organizations. Consistent with the hypothesis, we find that facing former team has a positive and significant (p , .05 in Model 2) effect on the number of checks. The effect is sizeable. Facing a former team increases a player’s number of checks by 10.8%.
