Document Title: Agricultural household models: extensions, applications, and policy
Abstract: Agricultural household models are designed to examine the effects of governmental interventions through price policies and public investments on the production, consumption and labour allocation decisions of agricultural households. In an overview of agricultural household models, the theory, empirical results, policy conclusions and methodological issues in regard of the basic model, are provided. The basic model, which underlies most of the case studies undertaken so far, can be expanded to analyse the effects of governmental policy on crop composition, nutritional status, health, savings, borrowing and investment. Some recent applications, uses and extensions of the basic agricultural household model are illustrated using data from China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone. Selected case studies will be abstracted separately in RURAL. KEYWORDS: RURAL | Agricultural development | agricultural policy | decicion making | farmers | agricultural production | consumption | manpower utilization | economic models.
