Rip Off
[rɪp][ɔːf]
看颜色抓重点: ■   释义
I remember the last New Year's Eve I went out with some friends and there were no ubers or the equivalent to didi.
So I took a normal taxi. He charged me 35 USD to go maybe 10 minutes up the street.
I just couldn't walk there myself because it was super cold andin heels. It was a total rip-off!
I was so angry in the morning but at least I made it home safe, right? Even though I was seriously ripped off.
R-I-P O-F-F. Rip off. [rɪp][ɔːf]
Rip off means cheating someone or charging too much money for something. There is nothing worse than being ripped off! Oh, ripped off is just the past tense of rip off.
Close your eyes and imagine you go to the store and a shirt there is about 150 RMB. It is a nice shirt but you decide to walk away from it.
Then, you go into another store and see the same exact shirt for 60 RMB. The other store basically is trying to rip you off, because it is not really 150 RMB.
The worth of the shirt is only 60 RMB. I feel like I have seen this in real life too many times!
I am mad just thinking about it. haha
Here, let us look at some example sentence:
Example 1:
Don't eat in the museum restaurant - it's a rip-off.
Example 2:
I bought these Gucci shoes but my friend told me they were fake! I was ripped off!
