Surface modification technology refers to the process technology used to improve the integrity of
the surface to improve the performance of materials and components. Since most of the failures of
materials and components occur from the surface, fatigue fracture, corrosion, friction and wear are
often closely related to surface integrity. Surface integrity refers to the defect-free or surface-
strengthened surface condition and performance, which determines the performance of the material,
but depends on the manufacturing process. Heat treatment surface modification technology mainly
refers to the use of heating and cooling methods to change the microstructure of the material to
achieve the desired performance.
This paper mainly introduces the characteristics of new technologies such as induction quenching,
rare earth or deformation impermeability, vacuum heat treatment, laser heat treatment, electron beam
heat treatment and ion beam heat treatment, and combines some of its own research results to look
forward to the application prospects and development trends of new metal heat treatment technologies,
in order to achieve the purpose of publicizing new technologies and promoting the development of new
processes.
1 . Induction hardening
Induction hardening is quenching that uses the heat generated by the induced current through the
material or workpiece to heat the surface, partial or overall surface of the material or workpiece and
cool it rapidly.
