I don't know what kind of suggestions you are looking for, but I think the discussion of "how to study advanced economics" will be fruitless. It is basically the same as studying a mathematical course with economic intuition.
My suggestion would be as simple as, "read every proof, do every exercise and appreciate intuitions if you can."
