警钟，就是 alarm bells，alarm 有“警报，提醒”的意思，我们每天早上都需要的闹钟，就是 alarm clock；bell 是“铃”的意思，所以 alarm bell 就是“警钟”，那么：警钟响起，这个“响起”的动词用的是 ring，alarm bells ring, set alarm bells ringing，除了表示真的警钟响起，也可以表示发出了危险信号，it's a sign that there may be a problem.

比如：有些明星的负面新闻，其实就是给整个行业敲响了一记警钟，这个时候就可以说：This should set alarm bells ringing.
