Critics may help one to understand the situation more objectively from different perspectives.
      If there is no critic at all, one may willfully think that he or she has done a good job, and cannot see the weakness or shortcoming of his / her work, gradually, he or she may feel satisfied with this inferior good work, and this ruins one's chance to improve and thus fails.  

And for second thought, one's success will be the natural result of perseverance in confronting any unfavorable comments or obstacles ahead, if not, one cannot wait to see the success, which is the reward for one's effort , patience, perseverance, and work done.
