Oh my god! 时寒冰 is macro economist???? I don't know what to say!
Just wan to point a few error he made in his this interview:
1) The CPI does include the housing data. The CPI represents all goods and services purchased for consumption by the reference population. food and beverage represents 1/3 regular Chinese expenditure. So its reasonable that 食品类的构成占三分之一.
2) He incorrectly think that CPI should use the cost of buying House in calculation, not the rent of primary residence or owners' equivalent rent. Rent is true cost of living. Just imaging that there is an apt. in Beijing costs RMB 1mm to buy, but you can rent by RMB 1000, so what is the true cost of living?
For this point, I even feel shame to make comments, He needs to go back to school to learn Economy 101. Every government in emerging or developed country needs to maintain and invest in 国家的基础建设. That's waht tax payers pay tax for and no private firms can replace this function. Also, during recession, government can increase the spending to fill some gap left by private sides.
I think he is true economist, he should use another case such as overbuilding luxurious hotels in same area.
First, the pork price was determined by demand and supply.
Second, government should relief some price pressure as long as the fiscal budget allows.
Anyway, I understand why economist (left or right) gets bad reputation in China. Most of them like working for entertainment industry. Just to catch the eyeball of public.
